the 8 components of military life
Disclaimer: the following was written by a chao recruit who has nth to do on national day and is feeling damn sian. everything is purely self opinion only, do not subscribe to it as the truth if u haven't been enlisted. similarly, if u noe better, den do correct me. thanks. otherwise, juz take it as crap and read for solely entertainment only..thank you.
oh yeah, if any of my sergeants happen to read this, pls juz turn a blind eye to it, i dun wan to go DB!
1. Discipline
army is all about discipline, being on the ball with everything u do. following orders, blah blah. how do they do it? with drills of course. there are drills for everything, from footdrills to weapon drills to training drills, if u can think of any activity, there's drills for it. dun wan to follow orders? prepare to knock it down. haha.
2. PT
physical training. one of the main things u go to army for. to train up ur physical and get fit. a friend once told me if u dun get fit in army, then u nv will. quite true i suppose. PTIs~ ur personal physical trainers provided by the army, the guys in the white top who go ard every morning during PT to see if ur doing ur thing correctly..if they catch u chao keng, haha, good luck to u...another thing abt PT, it can be done anytime anywhere, in some cases it is also interpreted as tekan by chao recruits such as myself. u tend to do so much of it, even if u dun like it, u will get used to it. there's a line in some song we sing tt goes, "got no time to watch tv, but got time to do PT..." haha, ttz how much PT u do.
3. Sergeants
Yes Sergeant! No Sergeant! sth tt u hear every minute all over camp. u love them, u hate them, ur afraid of them..wadever. they instill terror in every new recruit, but they can be ur frens too, if ur on the ball with everything u do la..hah. see them, u better greet them before they greet u, or else, prepare to knock it down...haha. do everything swee swee, and they can actually be nice ppl too, unless u suay suay kenna those set super high standards ones or are juz plain guai lan..den too bad, lol.
4. Army Songs
there's all sorts of funny ones, with variations created by individual companies, platoons, and u sing them whenever ur on the move..during runs, marching from pt A to pt B, and most of all during the dreaded route marches..and better sing out loud and clear, or u knock it down again. hah
5. Team Spirit
one for all, all for one. they tell u tt, always, u dun do things for urself only, coz no man is an island..u finish ur stuff, u help ur buddy, auto, and hope he helps u back next time, if not, ur both fucked, simple as tt, coz out in the field, u depend on ur buddies to watch ur back and u watch theirs. similarly, during training, u see ur platoon mate cmi, u better help him, or ur instructor fuck both of u..he kenna tekan, dun laugh, better go down with him..haha, so as to keep up with the team spirit.
6. SOC
standard obstacle course..everyone's favorite activity...yar rite..nt too bad la actually, some think its damn jialat, coz they cant clear the obstacles, while some think its fun, coz it really is, haha..altho by the time u finish its damn shack...fuck, i nearly throw up the time i run finish with sand cans and all tt shit.
7. Weapons
being a soldier, u gotta care for ur weapon, whether its SAR or M16, u better clean it any free time u got, or ur instructor will fuck u upside down..its a damn important piece of equipment, so u better keep it safe, respect it, wadever...lock it up if ur nt holding on to it, or else...haha..7 years in DB..enjoy. and call it by its proper name, weapon, rifle, SAR, M16, wadever..nv call it juz a gun..or u get fucked again..lol
8. Vulgarities
ah..the common language in army, esp bmt..u get it so much from ur instructors u soon get used to it and can anticipate wads coming.. "fuck" is like a punctuation mark in sentences in the army..while others like ccb or wadever juz keep flying at
u anytime anywhere. haha, ur sure to pick up some in there, if u haven't ald done so before enlistment. wan scold can scold, but in moderation, or else ppl cant stand u either, haha..worse still, u get out to civilian life, u'll find it hard to kick the habit of swearing..lol..
well, i guess ttz all i have for now. write more when i learn some more, for now..im juz still a chao recruit.
now, u understand why i become like that.. hahaz!!
